Hello. This is Michael Rubin. I've started offering a small personal class--a kind of one-on-one-- in Santa Cruz, California every few months. I call it "Making Movies with Mike."

Prior classes have been for four people workin over for a 5-6 hour course in shooting and editing. We spend time with a casual lecture and discussion, and then we integrate the talk with hands-on sharing a Sony TRV900 and a couple Macs. We focus on shooting, organizing and finally editing in Final Cut Pro 3 learning basic editing techniques.

Interested? Email me to reserve your place or check on upcoming groups. Here's the finer print:

This course is not designed for professionals, but people interested in using these tools for sophisticated-looking personal projects. One day to know your camera better, understand how to organize easily, and how to edit what you shoot. It's a crash course in Video Sketches and my methods for cranking out great-looking projects fast.

The next Making Movies with Mike seminar is still TBD in Santa Cruz, California; from 10am to 4pm (with around an hour for lunch). Santa Cruz is a small beach town over the hill from Silicon Valley. It's about 80 minutes south of San Francisco, an hour flight from LAX or Burbank or Portland.

The seminar price is $465 per person, which includes the course, lunch on me in downtown Santa Cruz, and a copy of each of my three texts: NONLINEAR/4 and THE LITTLE DIGITAL VIDEO BOOK and BEGINNER'S FINAL CUT PRO.

We'll be using my Sony TRV900 3CCD camcorder and my two Macs--a laptop iBook G3, 500MHz, and a Duel GHz G4.Attendies are invited to bring their own cameras if they'd like. We will be learning Final Cut Pro 3, but most concepts will apply to any editing software.

If you can't make it to Santa Cruz to join the group, there are other ways to participate in a course with me.
